Retirement Party
Posted on November 30, 2006
Last Weekend I photographed the great retirement party for Richard K. It was a great time with family coming in from all parts of the country. We took a big group photo of everyone there from above, lots of smaller groups, and lots of the grand-kids. After dinner they had Vegas style games set up and everyone had a great time. I had photographed their son Kevin’s and Kim’s wedding about 10 years earlier.

DPPA Competition
Posted on November 22, 2006
The November 21 Detroit Professional Photographers Association meeting was a print competition - We follow the very strict PPA (Professional Photographers Of America) Rules, even though, as a local affiliate we do not actually earn merits. This is the every first time I have ever entered. Normally Candid wedding images don’t score as high because we don’t take the time to really set them up to perfection during a hectic wedding. I did have a few I wanted to try though and my “Ring Bear’er” at the Detroit Zoo did OK. I got out some of my favorite images from my Alaska travels and did the best with my whale “Actic Bliss” which scored high enough to earn a merit. Julie entered her Vegas infra red “Vegas Peace”. It was actually very interesting and exciting.

DPPA all Day Seminar with Vicki Taufer
Posted on November 20, 2006
The Detroit Professional Photographers Association was proud to present Vicki Taufer for all All Day seminar Sunday November 12 at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Novi. She is one of the most sought after speakers and gave a dynamic program on the secrets of running her extremely successful portrait business – V Gallery in Illinois. As president elect it has been my job to bring in our speakers and she was the one that I wanted to bring in the most. We had a a great turn out of about 100 photographers. The board members all worked hard and we also thank the many sponsors and vendors that helped make it possible.

5th Grade Camp
Posted on November 19, 2006
Julie is very involved with her boys in their school activities – as I am when I can. Aaron is now in 6th grade in middle school right now and Steven is in the 5th grade. His class had a camp last week and Julie went along to take photos and document the activities. She made a great collage that everyone loved.

The First Images of my new grandson and the new Family in Alaska
Posted on November 7, 2006
As I said a post back – Gunther Johann Polzin was born Nov. 2nd to my daughter Tracy and her husband Rick in Palmer, Alaska. They came home Saturday – and I was so thrilled to see some images on her Flickr site late Sunday – every time I looked there were more coming online. They are absolutely breathtaking and incredible – Tracy looks so content and beautiful holding that gorgeous baby boy. He is so precious and darling – not that I’m prejudiced of course. I just want to hug all three of them!! Even their dogs had such a tender introduction to their new Brother. Sequoia is very protective and has not let him out of her sight. Sitka, the big St Bernard is still keeping her distance.
See all her images on her Flickr site – http://www.flickr.com/photos/spicegirl/ No password is needed and she has it set so that anyone can download any size image. It is great to not have to wait for her to send a DVD of the high res images to work with.

Ruth and John October 28th
Posted on November 7, 2006
October 28th was projected to be cold and rainy this year – and unfortunately a big part of the day was – BUT – we did manage to get some dry time – and even some sun in the afternoon. The ceremony was at the Academy of the Sacred Heart Chapel in West Bloomfield – always a beautiful and very easy to work in location. Then it was on to Belle Isle – It did stop raining, the sun peeked out for some dramatic skies and lighting – but the wind was very strong – We tried getting out on the tip of the island to take images with the skyline – but were nearly blown away. We were happily surprised that the fountain was even on – but I’ve never seen white caps on the pond between the fountain and the tip of the island. We did try to get to the docks – but were afraid to venture in too far. At least we did get quite a few romantic images outside. The Detroit Yacht Club was the elegant and prestigious setting for a great fun reception. It was my birthday – and I got to photograph a gorgeous wedding, with great people, and – I got an extra hour of sleep!

Tracy and Rick had their baby boy November 2, 2006

My youngest daughter Tracy had her baby yesterday up in Alaska – a little early. You saw the big belly pics a few posts back – she was huge then, with a projected due date of November 22. Well, Gunther Johann Polzin was born on the 2nd – weighing 7 pounds 2 ounces and 21 1/4 inches long – with a full head of dark hair. Mother and son and dad are doing great. Grandma is having a hard time – wishing she were there!! But they did take photos and promise to keep that up. She is coming home Saturday and will post some images on her Flickr site as soon as she can get to it. Keep checking her Flickr site and I will post some here as soon as I see them – not that I'm an anxious grandma or anything!!

They were great and we ended up with a lot of fantastic images. Looking forward to photographing their wedding next fall – October 6. Hope the weather and fall colors are as nice then.

October DPPA meeting
Posted on November 2, 2006
Our regular meeting for the Detroit Professional Photographers Association was held Tuesday Oct.17. We had a great program on “Marketing your Art”- given by Terry Lawrence – one of our local Photographers from Whitmore Lake and Tina and Michael Timmons from Frankenmuth Michigan. Very Interesting and Informative.
For any photographers reading this – be sure to join us for our first All Day Program November 12th with Vicki Taufer of V-Gallery at the Embessy Suites Hotel in Novi. She is one of the most saught after, dynamite speakers and this will be a phenomenal program. Call or e-mail me for more info if you need it – it is NOT too late to make reservations!

Jessica and Jeff October 21, 2006
Posted on November 2, 2006
Congratulations to Jessica and Jeff on a beautiful fall wedding on the grounds of the Addison Oaks in Rochester. The colors were so great – the weather co-operated; we even had the ceremony outside – which was so much nicer. We took photos at both the bride’s and the groom’s houses before hand and then enjoyed the romantic photographs on the beautiful grounds. The reception was fun and a great party. We always love working at Addison Oaks!
