We have a Bridal Show this weekend!!!

Posted on September 5, 2010

We are so excited to have a booth in the Perfect Wedding Guide’s bridal show next Sunday – at Petruzzellos in Troy – (OMG – that’s in 1 week!). We haven’t done a bridal show in over 10 years… Working hard on marketing and promotional pieces – I like to design these myself, love it, but tend to take forever on every little thing….Come say HI! Tickets are free if you sign up online.

It’s working….

Posted on August 7, 2010

We finally figured out a big part of the puzzle to get the blog portion of this site working better.

Thank you so much to Chris Hebert who has been working tirelessly to help me make the blog portion of this website/blog work better. There is no real support for Wordpress – that is the hard part.  All my old posts (going back to 06)  are supposed to show up under the galleries – if the name of the category checked and the gallery name is exactly the same – well I was skeptical and worried about this – and knew it had to be easier said than done!  I was right – it was far from easy!  After a lot of research, detective work, coding repair and manually entering things to make the  move easier, she has succeeded to make it work .

Thanks bunches Chris -

Hope you ENJOY, let us know how you like it, we value any input.

I have not ben as active on the blog as I used to be. The Facebook Fan Page is truthfully more up to date right now – so check it out.  Will be catching up on some of the recent things we have been up to

Thank you

Wally

Welcome to our new website/blog – we are so excited and proud to finally have it live and active. This is a hybrid between a regular website, adding some flash in the galleries and headers and the Wordpress blog I have had since 2006.

Nothing is ever as easy as it seems, and the “merge” was certainly a challenge. A big THANK YOU goes to Chris Hebert, for all her help in actually making it work! A thank you also to Brian and Dawn for all their help in molding the various versions of our websites and blogs over the many years!

Now we will still be tweaking and adding to this site to continue to improve on it and make it grow.  We will also be populating some of the galleries that are not yet complete and hope to soon add another larger section for our growing endeavor in High School Senior photography!

So stay tuned as we continue to grow, but this is a huge step in rebuilding and growing Wally Spice Photography!

Be sure to take a look at our face book fan page, by clicking on the F symbol for some of our interim activity. We will be updating this also.

ENJOY!! and please feel free to give us your input!!

Thank You
Wally and Julie

Happy St Patrick’s day everyone – ENJOY! I just got back from the Detroit Zoo and it was packed already – great day. I brought them more promotional fliers that I make to help them with their marketing – I l love supporting them – it’s a great place for a wedding and lots of other programs they do – “Say I do at the Zoo!”

Erin and Brock 9-19-09

This is the video for the wedding of Erin and Brock, taken September 19,09. Julie was the main photographer. They met at the house beforehand and enjoyed some fun “Urban” romantics at Hart Plaza, Belle Isle and the back of the Ren Cen.
The ceremony and reception were at Tina’s Country House.

Erin had babysat Julie’s boys when they were younger (she used to live across the street from her). She was able to meet and spend time with Brock when they had her out to Washington DC to photograph some engagement photos. They are truly one of the most “in love” couples I know. It was a joy to photograph their wedding!!! :-)

Happy Hollidays!! Gift ideas!

Posted on December 5, 2009

Hope you are enjoying the preparations for the Holidays coming up.

It is not too late to order reprints or even Holiday cards from the images you already have from your wedding or portrait session.  I just a added a new tab to this blog on Specials, Products and pricing
take a look at the post on specials for reprints and Holiday cards.

Our web site home page also has a slightly different look, all the new hot links are now active – although we need to work on the spacing for the new 2009 Holiday specials and pricing page.

Our wedding last weekend for Jessica and Billi was so fantastic. The ceremony was at the Hope Chapel in Shelby Township – the historic train and beautiful Heritage gardens close by were perfect for our romantics – even as the sun was going down. The evening was topped by a great reception at the Vintage house where everyone had a terrific time.

They are featured on our Facebook Fan page also

About this time 2 years ago we did a most fantastic wedding for Annie (Rancillio) and Mark Loughead. We photographed her sister Rachel’s wedding earlier too. Annie has been super supportive and recommended us to Jessica and Jim who we just photographed last weekend. It was great to see Annie there. they had one of our Animoto fast paced slideshows too but we weren’t into FB yet. So I got out their video, and re-mixed it with out Favorite “Happy” song. Their ceremony was at St Mathew’s church in Detroit, we had awesome romantics on Belle Isle and ended the eve with a great reception at Andiamos. Happy Anniversary! (Just a little late)

Julie is a very lucky and happy girl this week. One of her friends,  and his fiance  are getting married on an all inclusive resort in the Montego Bay area of Jamaica on Friday November 6th and flew her down there to photograph the wedding. What an awesome opportunity. I have weddings this weekend so couldn’t go but she is thrilled to be there. 2 of her friends, Jill and Dawn also joined her to help! They are having the time of their lives!!!
They flew in the Monday before and are scouting out all the great locations – On Tuesday the couple did some para sailing and Julie got to go on the boat to photograph them! – They are being know as their personal photographers for the week!

Erin and Brock – September 19th

This is a link to the album that Julie posted on her personal site for the wedding she photographed for Erin and Brock Sept 19th. Erin & her family are neighbors to Julie and Erin used to babysit the boys – now Aaron came along to assist as a third photographer. They flew Julie and her youngest son Steven to Washington DC for an engagement session. I will also try to make an Animoto show, I do not have all the images but can use these.

The wedding of Kathleen and Dennis on 10-09-09 at the Roostertail in Detroit. The Girls got ready at the Greektown Casino Hotel. They had their first special meeting on the stairs of the Roostertail and proceeded to a great Urban Shoot – even in the rain we had a great time. The inside ceremony and reception at the Roostertail, on the Detroit River was very elegant and beautiful. Everyone had a great time.

I just received the album we ordered for Denise and Mike. They went onto Finao’s website (www.finaoonline) and chose a brocade cover with the chocolate leather spine. It really looks awesome. I don’t usually show the brocades – but was pleasantly surprised at how terrific it looks. This is only a 28 sides album – so this shows it can be done! (I am known for albums in the 50-70 sided category) – and it certainly tells the complete story of their day with their favorite images.

We enjoyed a great wedding weekend in Louisville Kentucky for our friends Chris and Selam. The rehearsal dinner was at Churchill Downs, with a tour and the wedding and fun reception at their local Orthodox Church.
It was also great to see Kelly and… Mike, we photographed their wedding last month.
I worked with Jim VL and his daughter Taylor and we had a lot of fun also. Taylor loves horses and follows the Kentucky Derby every year – she really loved to tour of Churchill Dpwns. It really was interesting. The images in this album were only taken by Wally Spice.
Jim took a lot also, setting up his studio lights for the formal alter returns and his Photo booth that Taylor ran all evening, etc.

The album on my facebook profile, that anyone can see is at:

Wally photographed my wedding at the Detroit Zoo. She caught some amazing images of myself, my husband, and our bridal party with some zoo animals, and she managed to also a lot of small intimate moments as well. I can’t believe how beautiful our photos turned out, and I will have them to remember our day with our family and friends forever. Wally was a joy to work with throughout our planning and the day of our wedding — creative, kind, flexible, and really committed to capturing our day. I’d recommend her to anyone who wants stellar photographs taken by a really talented photographer.

The Wedding of Lisa and Eric 8-8-09

Posted on August 15, 2009

Julie was the main photographer for us for the wedding of Lisa and Eric on 8-8-09. The enjoyed an urban shoot in the beautiful & dry lobby and ballroom of the Book Cadillac in Detroit and then had a great outdoor ceremony and reception at he Walnut Creek Country Club in South Lyons.

If you are a FaceBook user -see their album on out Fan page:

http://www.facebook.com/wally.spice?v=feed&story_fbid=122267458971#/album.php?aid=113357&id=109141840457

There are about 82 images here from their wedding that you are free to tag if you wish.

This weekend was a bit of a challenge to all of us working and I think that as photographers (and videographers) we showed that our job is much more than just take photographs and record the happenings of the day!- but to calm our brides down and assure them that all will work out fine. I’m an eternal optimist and put that message on face book that morning and really felt that the day would end up OK.

We all woke up to down pouring rain here in the Detroit area – forecasts did not sound too encouraging although some said it might clear up later in the day.

Julie was photographing a wedding for us for Lisa and Eric at Walnut Country Club in South Lyons. They were set to have a full outside Urban shoot in Detroit and Lisa was starting to panic not knowing what on earth to do.
When Julie go there she calmed her right down and said – don’t worry I have a great alternate plan – we can go to the Book Cadillac – which is awesome inside. That’s what they did. They got some drinks there and were able to use the great lobby and even asked – and got permission, to go up to their ballroom! Everyone was thrilled and happy. It cleared up in this area around 5PM and they still got some outside images at Walnut Creek before their ceremony. The outside ceremony was gorgeous with no more rain drops and the day was great!

My wedding was way north at Devil’s Ridge in Metamora. It poured all the way up on the drive – but I did notice that as I was getting north of the Palace the sky was brightening up – even though it was still raining! I got there early cause I left lots of extra time – it was bright out – but still a steady down pour. My bride seemed to be taking it relatively Ok and I told her that I thought it would clear up and that it looked so much better than when I left Detroit so it is on its way to clearing. I assured her that there is plenty we could do by the big windows etc even if we had to work inside – their ceremony was in a structure with a roof and overhang – with open sides – and we could do lots there – she was determined to still have her ceremony outside no matter what.

We took our time getting her dressed and ready. The videographer Jason had his I-phone and was showing her the Doppler weather maps to show that the storm is clearing and moving away from us. That assured her also! They met on the staircase for a tender meeting and “reveal” with her soon to be husband. By about 3/3:30, sure enough, it cleared up and we still got the golf carts we had planned. They gave us a guide who showed us all the great places on the grounds and we got lots of our great outdoor romantics.
Her ceremony was still outside and gorgeous. She still insisted on the orderves being outside – even though it was wet and all was fine. It really was a great wedding day!

I just talked to another one of our photography friends – and she was saying the same thing. She said her bride was having a total meltdown and she assured her all was going to be fine – calm down, we will find somewhere to do some great fun photography. They ended up just doing romantics beforehand at the site and by the time the outdoor ceremony came around (around 5) – it had also cleared up and it was gorgeous – nice overcast even light that we love and no more rain drops!

We talked about how our job really is to stay calm ourselves and calm our couples down and assuring them that the day will end up just fine.

That is what differentiates a good professional photographer from one that would just panic along with the bride.

I love that part of our job – we really need to be totally aware of all the emotional undercurrents of the day and be sensitive to them. We are the ones there usually from the time she is getting ready – she has to feel comfortable with us. Having such a great report with her is so special; being so close to her at such an important time is an honor and a privilege. Capturing all these moments for her is priceless!

This is the video for Lynda an Frank Sat Aug 1st. in the Livonia area. Great fun couple in their 40’s – so genuine and real! The ceremony was at St Kenneth and we found some great spots along Hines Parkway and in Plymouth for romantics and ended up with a great reception at Laurel Manor.
